or completing a dot-to-dot of one of his ships...

or learning all about the Santa Maria and making a fun "replica" using our hand print...

Our Lady of the Rosary

Celebrating Our Lady

Although we didn't have school on the actual Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, we took some time to celebrate this beautiful day as a class before our day off. 

We colored a lovely Rosary booklet, which included an image of Mary and all the mysteries.

The munchkins also enjoyed creating a little Rosary cup for holding  their special beads.

But the most fun of the day came near the end...

We took the time to discuss all the beautiful prayers of the Rosary, even counting how many of each there are.  It was easy when we added marshmallows and mini oreos to the mix!

The munchkins all did a great job counting the correct number of marshmallows to represent the Hail Mary prayers.

With the correct number of marshmallows, it was easy to create an entire edible Rosary! 

Isn't it lovely?

And delicious!

Doesn't he look like the cat that swallowed the canary marshmallows?!

YUM!

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Pray for us sinners,

The Poor Man of Assisi

Celebrating St. Francis

We were blessed with another perfect day to be outside celebrating the Feast of St. Francis (although this year, it only worked into our school schedule to celebrate him a day early!). 

The munchkins enjoyed reading all the wonderful legends from Tomie dePaola's Francis: The Poor Man of Assisi.  They especially loved, as was expected, the story of the wolf at Gubbio, as well as learning about how much Francis loved birds and all other animals.

We had all sorts of fun projects that filled the day, including a little diorama of the saint surrounded by all his "brothers" and "sisters" (animal stickers). 

Then there was the coloring page, which the munchkins really did a nice job with.  Many of them even included the wounds of Christ on his hands (after seeing this in a classroom icon that we have).

And then came the best part...well, unless you count the snack we had at the end of the day (but we'll get to that!).

We all went outside and made little bird feeders to hang in the trees around the rectory.

We strung a yarn hanger through a piece of toast and stuffed the toast with sunflower seeds.  They turned out very cute. 

Then munchkins had such fun finding a low hanging branch to attach them to.  Although, I will say, after the trimming that was done to all the trees this fall, it was quite hard to find branches low enough for these cuties to reach!

Many of the feeders ended up on the same lucky branch!!

Then we were on to the snack...

Wolf paw cookies!

YUM!

The Little Flower

Celebrating St. Therese

I just love the end of September and the beginning of October!  There are so many wonderful feast days which give us beautiful opportunities to examine and imitate the lives of the saints (which, of course, we all hope to be someday!).

Well, tomorrow's feast day is one of my favorites. 

St. Therese of the Child Jesus.

The munchkins learned all about her life this week and we created a cute little prayer box to take home and fill with prayer intentions. 

We began with a lovely coloring image of St. Therese (from Relevant Radio).  The munchkins did a wonderful job of coloring her realistically.

 

Then the munchkins created a small cross from construction paper that they decorated with paper and tissue roses.

We glued the cross to the outside of a little paper mache box.

Then we added the image of St. Therese inside the box.

Novena to St. Therese

O Little Therese of the Child Jesus,

please pick for me a rose from the heavenly garden

and send it to me as a message of love.

O Little Flower of Jesus,

ask God today to grant the favors I now place with confidence in your hands...(state your petitions here). 

St. Therese,

help me to always believe, as you did,

in God's great love for me

so that I might imitate your "Little Way" each day.
