Valentine's Day Fun

Hearts Everywhere!

It is always fun to get our room ready for the feast of St. Valentine.  Although this "love"-ly saint no longer has an official feast day on the church calendar, we did not forget to include him in our celebration of the day named for him!

We began with a fun heart activity that reminded us that if we're going to talk about love, there is none greater than Jesus!  So we used the words of the perfect song...
"Jesus Loves Me".
As the munchkins cut the hearts, they ordered them by size to sequence the words of the song.  It was the perfect project for our front windows!

 It took lots of cutting...

and some careful planning...

for the perfect finished product!

Aren't we so blessed!

From there we had some fun with St. Valentine himself. The munchkins were captivated as they listened to the story of his life and came to understand the reason why we send little love notes to each other, just as he did to his dear little friend.
After hearing the story, we used a beautiful holy card image of St. Valentine (which was done in a mosaic style) to create a mosaic of our own.

The munchkins practiced symmetry as they set their tiles and my, what lovely pieces we had when they were completed.

We continued to fill the week with more hearts, love and fun...

with a pocket chart and class book about hearts everywhere!

And then with some yummy sorting...
(did you think I'd forget the food?)

and graphing of boxed candy hearts.

With our week complete, our room decorated, and our hearts ready for a great feast day, we came back to school on Monday (luckily with the whole class finally healthy!) to celebrate St. Valentine's Day.

We made a secret gift for someone special...

A painted, heart-shaped rosary box filled with kisses!

We ended our day with a fun and beautifully executed Valentine's Day party compliments of our Room Moms.

The munchkins made cute mailboxes in which to receive all their love letters...

then played Valentine Bingo Heart.

We ended the day as munchkin mailmen (and women)!

What a happy St. Valentine's Day!

A Christmas Celebration

Merry Christmas Munchkins

Our wonderful class Room Moms prepared a great afternoon for the munchkins in celebration of the upcoming birth of Jesus.  It was filled with games, snacks and fun...
First there was:

Toss the snowball

Then:

Pass the present
(kind of like "hot potato" only you want to get the present because then you get to unwrap it)

Except...it never seemed to be fully unwrapped, so we had to pass the present again!

And what is it about cookies that makes everyone smile?

What a fun afternoon!
Thanks Room Moms!

Merry Christmas Munchkins!

Until next time...

When the Saints go Marching!

Saints Alive!

November began with a super celebration of the saints for The Feast of All Saints!  Our fabulous Room Moms organized a party for our class and all the munchkins dressed as their favorite saints.  We were pleased to see St. Mary, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Joshua, St. Paul, St. Joseph, St. Nathanael and St. Francis of Assisi (three of them!)

Don't they look great?

We paraded around the school so that all the classes (and Mom & Dad) could have a look at our great costumes.

Then we partied!  We made a great craft, coloring and decorating a small paper saint.  The munchkins could choose from St. Francis of Assisi, St. Patrick, St. Mary or St. Therese.  They turned out fantastic.

Most of the boys chose St. Francis and St. Patrick (of course!).

And our girls chose St. Therese and St. Mary (surprise!).

We played two great games.
For the first, we got to go outside to play our game...thank goodness for good weather!

We played the St. Therese flower toss...

Then we were back inside to play a "guess the saint" game.

What a blessed day to honor the saints of heaven!  Thanks to our Room Moms for organizing our fun and for all the parents for such great costumes.

Communion of Saints, Pray for Us!

Until next time,
