A Little Egg Hunt

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

It's hard to go on Easter break without a little bit of an egg hunt!
We had an absolutely gorgeous Friday...our last day of school before break.

So...
While the munchkins were busy skating in P.E., "Peter Cottontail" hid some eggs in the play yard.

Everyone get ready...

Go!

It didn't take long before all the eggs were found!

Then came the fun of checking out what was in each one...

Happy Easter, Munchkins!
Until next time...

Preparing for Easter

We Prepare

Our last week of school before Easter break was spent on a journey through Holy Week. It was a wonderful way to prepare ourselves for the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Each day we read pages for one of my favorite Lenten stories:  Benjamin's Box.  We created our own little "Way of the Cross" booklet and we had coloring pages for each day of Holy Week.  We also created some fun crafts to help us remember each special day.

Palm Sunday.

As always, the writing of the munchkins was just fantastic.  They do so well using sight words and phonemic spelling to create wonderfully fluent sentences all on their own.  Their usage of beginning uppercase letters and ending punctuation is great as well!

We couldn't let this last week of school get past us without some sort of recipe!

This one was quick, easy and to the point!

Not to mention...delicious!
Some of the munchkins had never tired a twinkie.
Such a treat!

Stations of the Cross

The Living Stations

One of my favorite activities of the whole kindergarten year is exploring the Stations of the Cross with my munchkins.  Some of them have prayed The Stations with their families.  Others have never experienced this beautiful meditation before.  It is such a joy and pleasure to watch as, over the season of Lent, these little ones truly begin to embrace the story of Christ's passion.

We spent about three weeks exploring The Stations.  We made visits to the church to discuss the images on the wall.  We read several versions of The Passion and talked about all that Christ went through.  We also made our own Stations of the Cross prayer book, where each child illustrated each station in his or her own way.  It was a wonderful keepsake and it helped each child internalize what is happening at each station.
As a school, it is a general practice to pray The Stations every Friday.  By the time Lent was complete, even the kindergarten munchkins participated fully in the meditation.
And then came the grand finale!
Every year, we are blessed to have our 8th grade class perform The Living Stations.  This year, as is the norm, we were given a beautiful performance!  We were all (myself included) mesmerized.  It was a beautiful way to leave school for our Easter break.

We remember.  We celebrate.
We believe!

Many Lenten Blessings!

March Madness

St. Mary's Roller Derby!

Our FANTASTIC P.E. teacher did it again!  This time of year is always roller skating time in gym class.  The munchkins just love it!

Some took off slowly and carefully...

Others, who had skated before, were a little more adventurous...

But everyone had a blast!

This smile says it all...

School Talent Show

Kindergarten Has Talent!

We had our annual school talent show today and two of our kindergarten munchkins joined in the fun to show the rest of the student body that...

Kindergarten Has Talent!

Great job to the many students at our school for their wonderful performances and for these littlest of acts.

This little munchkins broke her first board with her fist today!  What a feat!

And this tiny dancer wowed the crowd!

What a show!

The Feast of the Annunciation

She Said Yes!

The Feast of the Annunciation falls on a Lenten Sunday this year, so it will be officially celebrated on Monday, March 26.  We decided to end our week by preparing for the feast day, even though we are a few days early.

We revisited our Atrium infancy narrative box with the beautiful pieces for retelling the Annunciation story.  Then we sang one of our favorite little songs: She Said Yes

We also re-read the story from one our many Bibles.
(The munchkins love to read from different Bibles!)

Then we were on to the fun part.  Anything that includes glitter is fun, right?

The munchkins traced and cut their hands and one foot (yes, with the shoe off and everything!).

All the pieces were assembles to create what could be considered an angel!
(Although, many of the munchkins decided it looked more like a turkey!)

We added a pretty glittered halo, though.  Then it looked more like Gabriel!  We also added a prayer to the back.  The munchkins began learning The Angelus after Christmas break and now THEY KNOW IT!  So, this was the perfect project to add it to...

As the munchkins finished, they had the chance to color the beautiful image of Gabriel and Mary from our atrium work folder.

And then my camera battery gave out!  I guess it was time to stop taking pictures...
How sad!

Until next time...
