The Feast of the Annunciation

She Said Yes!

The Feast of the Annunciation falls on a Lenten Sunday this year, so it will be officially celebrated on Monday, March 26.  We decided to end our week by preparing for the feast day, even though we are a few days early.

We revisited our Atrium infancy narrative box with the beautiful pieces for retelling the Annunciation story.  Then we sang one of our favorite little songs: She Said Yes

We also re-read the story from one our many Bibles.
(The munchkins love to read from different Bibles!)

Then we were on to the fun part.  Anything that includes glitter is fun, right?

The munchkins traced and cut their hands and one foot (yes, with the shoe off and everything!).

All the pieces were assembles to create what could be considered an angel!
(Although, many of the munchkins decided it looked more like a turkey!)

We added a pretty glittered halo, though.  Then it looked more like Gabriel!  We also added a prayer to the back.  The munchkins began learning The Angelus after Christmas break and now THEY KNOW IT!  So, this was the perfect project to add it to...

As the munchkins finished, they had the chance to color the beautiful image of Gabriel and Mary from our atrium work folder.

And then my camera battery gave out!  I guess it was time to stop taking pictures...
How sad!

Until next time...

Preparing for The Presentation

The Presentation of Jesus

We ended the month of January with a day dedicated to The Presentation of Jesus (also known as Candlemas).  Even though we are a couple days away from the actual day on our Church calendar (February 2), we needed to fit this important day into a busy Catholic Schools' Week schedule the best we could!  (Can you tell it was Pajama Day?)

After reading from Luke, the students enjoyed seeing what was in the Atrium box that went with this Infancy Narrative.  Probably the favorite pieces were the tiny turtle doves that Joseph offered as sacrifice!

We created a nice project, which the munchkins were able to take home right away.  Each munchkin colored a picture of Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus at the temple, with Simeon holding Him.

They added a bit of writing (to practice some phonic rules we're working on...like using silent "e", and capitalizing names).  Our writing skills are just amazing! I am so proud of these munchkins!

To finish the project, everyone traced one hand on a folded piece of paper.  When opened, it created a dove.

All the parts of this project were placed together on a poster.

They were really nice when complete!

We ended our day with a fun little addition...
Would you believe it if I said that it was a snack?

We made candle cookies, because The Presentation is also known as Candlemas.  The munchkins loved them!

Until next time...

The Infancy Narratives

We Prepare: Infancy Narratives

Getting ready for the birth of Baby Jesus is such a wonderful time.  The munchkins learn some very special lessons during our Atrium time that help them understand what this time must have been like.  They love to turn the lights out and light our candle as we read from our classroom Bible and talk about the beautiful stories and prophecies.  The enticing Atrium materials add so much to the stories and the munchkins love to retell those stories using the pieces in our special story boxes.

We use three special stories.

The Annunciation

The Visitation

The Nativity

Content to be added soon...I can't find my pictures!!  They're lost in cyberspace somewhere!
