Hearts Everywhere!
It is always fun to get our room ready for the feast of St. Valentine. Although this "love"-ly saint no longer has an official feast day on the church calendar, we did not forget to include him in our celebration of the day named for him!
We began with a fun heart activity that reminded us that if we're going to talk about love, there is none greater than Jesus! So we used the words of the perfect song...
"Jesus Loves Me".
As the munchkins cut the hearts, they ordered them by size to sequence the words of the song. It was the perfect project for our front windows!
It took lots of cutting...
and some careful planning...
for the perfect finished product!
Aren't we so blessed!
From there we had some fun with St. Valentine himself. The munchkins were captivated as they listened to the story of his life and came to understand the reason why we send little love notes to each other, just as he did to his dear little friend.
After hearing the story, we used a beautiful holy card image of St. Valentine (which was done in a mosaic style) to create a mosaic of our own.
The munchkins practiced symmetry as they set their tiles and my, what lovely pieces we had when they were completed.
We continued to fill the week with more hearts, love and fun...
with a pocket chart and class book about hearts everywhere!
And then with some yummy sorting...
(did you think I'd forget the food?)
and graphing of boxed candy hearts.
With our week complete, our room decorated, and our hearts ready for a great feast day, we came back to school on Monday (luckily with the whole class finally healthy!) to celebrate St. Valentine's Day.
We made a secret gift for someone special...
A painted, heart-shaped rosary box filled with kisses!
We ended our day with a fun and beautifully executed Valentine's Day party compliments of our Room Moms.
The munchkins made cute mailboxes in which to receive all their love letters...
