The Good Shepherd

The Lord is My Shepherd

One of our special atrium lessons deals with exploring and meditating on the Parable of the Lost Sheep and understanding Jesus as our Good Shepherd.

Following the Bible story, we all discuss the ways the shepherd cares for the sheep...providing food, water, and love to all of them...even when they wander away and don't seem to appreciate him.  Then the munchkins are introduced to the atrium work and can retell the parable using the atrium sheepfold.

(Hiding the lost sheep is always fun!)

As the discussion continues, the munchkins come to understand that we are like the little lost sheep when we wander away from Jesus &into sin.  Jesus is the one who comes looking for us.  In the second atrium work, the sheep are changed to people and the munchkins begin to understand the special way Jesus cares for and feeds His "sheep" in the Eucharistic Presence.

Everyone made a Good Shepherd collage to take home, too.

With a little extra time, the munchkins had the option of making a Good Shepherd bookmark or a fun coloring page with a cotton ball lamb.

And we even made the sheepfold for snack!

The Lord is my shepherd.

Until next time...
Giggles,
Mrs. D.
