Mary's Seven Sorrows

Our Parish Namesake

The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is so very special here at our school, as, although we shorten our school name to St. Mary's, we are officially named for Mary's seven sorrows.  That makes today's feast day a very special solemnity for our parish.

To make it a bit more special in our classroom, we created a fun little project to help us remember how many times our beautiful Mother's heart broke as she lived her life in total obedience to God's plan.

Thanks to Meredith at Waltzing Matilda, we had a lovely image of a sorrowful Mary to color, cut and add to a heart with a list of her sorrows on the back.

Coloring...
(love those blue veils!)

Gluing...
(some more fervently than others!)

Adding the seven sorrows...

And although we didn't have the chance to add the seven swords (toothpicks!), the finished product was beautiful...just like Mary herself.  And the munchkins were so excited to take them home and tell Mom and Dad all about Mary's broken heart...

Until next time...
Giggles,
Mrs. D.
