Chicka Boom Room Part 1

Chicka Chicka Language Arts

After two weeks of fun with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, we finally climbed down out of the coconut tree!  The munchkins were very excited to be taking their Chicka Boom Bags home with them...all filled with the activities of the past two weeks...to show to Mom and Dad.

From reading to math to science and the world around us...here's some of what kept the munchkins busy during our unit.

Learning our Letters

Of course, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is the perfect story to help us focus on letters.  We spent so many mornings with letter play...matching upper case letters (mamas) with lower case letters (babies) in a fun game.  We played our own version of Bingo, trying to find all the letters hidden in the coconut tree.  And we had our own blow-up coconut tree in our room.  The munchkins chose a letter and placed it in the tree as they read the pocket chart.

Of course, after too many letters, it fell just like the one in the book.
Chicka, Chicka...

BOOM! BOOM!

One of many table jobs reinforced the matching of upper and lower case letters as well.  The munchkins did a great job cutting and gluing the babies next to the mamas!

We used the letters of the alphabet to make a fun little art project, too.  Each munchkin painted a tree trunk, cut hand prints for a tree top, and added letter stickers to create his or her own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree.  We even added a bit of math to this project by counting how many letters were int he tree and how many were on the ground.  The munchkins are learning how to put sets of numbers together to make a math sentence that can then be added.

Painting...

Tracing...

Cutting...

Gluing...

Adding letters...

Finished!

These looked great in our window!

And that brings us to all the fun math activities we did in the Chicka Boom Room!

So be sure to check back for our next post!

Until next time...
Giggles,
Mrs. D.
