Fun with St. Francis

Fun with St. Francis

Today was one of those perfect fall days.  The whole world just seemed to be filled with God's Glory.  It could not have been a better day to learn about St. Francis!

St. Francis just happens to be the patron saint of the kindergarten classroom, so we have a special devotion to him.  Today we had the chance to express that devotion in so many ways.

We began with some fantastic stories about St. Francis of Assisi and followed these up with a great diorama of our saint.  We had some fun little flip-top boxes that were perfect for the setting.  The munchkins worked hard to get their markers inside the box to create beautiful forest settings, complete with Brother Sun.

Then they added a little cut paper St. Francis and a portion of his prayer.  After getting it all glued in, the munchkins carefully placed stickers of all God's creatures around St. Francis to create a complete scene.  The finished products were really nice!

After another story, the munchkins had just enough time to color a great coloring page of our saint.  They were done beautifully!

Probably the favorite activity of the day, however, came after lunch when it had warmed up enough to go outside without our coats so that we could create some bird feeders for Brother and Sister Bird!

There was stringing...

buttering...

dipping...

and hanging in the trees in front of the rectory.

And who could resist posing with the statue of St. Francis?  What a great class picture!

We finished with one last story...my favorite...of St. Francis and the wolf of Gubbio.  The munchkins were thrilled at the special snack of wolf paw cookies!

And after school...

Some of the Kindergarten munchkins came out with other members of the school and parish for the annual Blessing of Animals with Father.

 What a truly beautiful day!

St. Francis of Assisi, Pray for Us!

Until next time,
Giggles,
Mrs. D.
