Christ the King

Christ the King!

It's hard to believe that we are about to enter the season of Advent, but yes, it's here!

With the celebration of Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we took this great opportunity in our kindergarten class to learn a bit about the church calendar.  The munchkins are already very good at watching to see what liturgical color Father will be wearing at our weekday and Sunday Masses.  With our lesson on the church calendar, now they will be able to even better predict what he might have on before they get to church!

We used the calendar puzzle from our Atrium, placing all the pieces on the floor before putting it back together again.  We discussed the liturgical colors on the calendar and what those colors mean for us ~
Green for Growing
Purple for Waiting
White for Celebrating
Red of the Holy Spirit and Martyrs

The munchkins were so excited to learn that this Sunday was the last green block on the calendar.  It was so neat to watch their faces as they realized that meant we would soon be in "waiting" for something special to happen in our Church.  But what?

Oh, the smiles and excitement as they put the pieces together and understood that we will be preparing and waiting for the Baby Jesus to be born on Christmas!

But we didn't want to jump ahead too quickly, without giving the proper time to this Sunday and the beautiful celebration of Christ the King!
We colored some wonderful coloring pages and then predicted...

What color will Father have on this Sunday?

Hmmm...that's a tricky one now, isn't it.
The munchkins had no trouble figuring it out though!  Even though the block on the calendar was green, they knew very well that it was no ordinary day!

Christ the King, Thy Kingdom Come!

Until next time,
Giggles,
Mrs. D
