First Week Fun

First Week Fun!

All the munchkins have had such a good time getting to know our classroom and finding out about all the fantastic centers in which they can work. I can't introduce the materials fast enough! What fun!

Our work these first two weeks has centered on free exploration and building practical life skills. The munchkins love the transferring trays, the spooning and pouring activities and our manipulatives. They have been hard at work creating, sharing and learning. It's been a great start to what promises to be a great year!

Practical life skills, a basic Montessorian principle, increase a child's focus, contemplation and coordination while developing critical fine motor control. The materials available are beautifully enticing and many times, items that children of this age are not allowed to work with independently (like water in a glass pitcher!) This make the activities so intriguing, encouraging the child's natural curiosity. What a marvelous way to learn!

Until next time...
Giggles,
Mrs. D
